Purpose

The Challenger Hydrosafe represents an important advance in lifejacket design and technology. The Hydrosafe has been designed to meet the rigorous demands of high speed fast ferry operators and is the world’s first SOLAS standard lifejacket to incorporate the weight and space saving features of an airline jacket.

The Hydrosafe is packed into a hermetically sealed bag which reduces its volume to 85% less than that of a conventional inherently buoyant lifejacket while the total weights remain under one kilogram. This makes Hydrosafe ideal for underseat stowage where it is within immediate and easy reach in an emergency situation.

Hydrosafe has a wide size range capability making it suitable for both adults and children. Operators need not carry two sizes of lifejacket when equipped with Hydrosafe. In an emergency no time is lost distributing children’s lifejackets, family groups stay together and abandonment time is reduced. The slim profile of the uninflated Hydrosafe allows total freedom of movement and unrestricted forward and downward vision facilitating faster and safer abandonment via stairways, ladders or MES systems.
The outer foil packaging is easy to open and the lifejacket can be donned in a sitting position in a few seconds following the clear pictorial instructions. The laminated foil layers of the packaging provide an effective protection against damage and corrosion reducing servicing and replacement costs. The Hydrosafe is manufactured using puncture resistant fabrics and has a neon yellow stole making it highly visible in low light conditions therefore enhancing survivor location.
